WHAT MASSAGE IS RIGHT FOR YOU?
|
I have put together some basic information regarding some of the massage treatments I offer, to help answer questions clients have asked me over the years.
DEEP TISSUE
Deep tissue massage is aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia. Deep tissue uses some of the same movements as Swedish massage, but is done with the therapists elbow, back of the hand (soft fist) as opposed to the open hand movements of swedish. Pressure will generally be more intense with a deep tissue work.
SWEDISH/CIRCULATORY
Swedish massage is good for relaxation, improvement of circulation, stress reduction and reduction of work on the cardiovascular system. Generally is light to medium pressure.
SHIATSU/ACCUPRESSURE
Accupressure is used to unlock chi/energy in the body. Each acupressure point effects different organs in the body. Areas where chi becomes stagnant are more likely to become unhealthy, so by unblocking the chi through-out the body with acupressure, your chi is encouraged to sustain a healthy flow.
TRIGGER POINT
A Trigger point is a pin point localization of pain on your body. It is generally the point of your body that took the greatest injury when you get hurt by accident, or by over exerting yourself working out, etc. By applying ischemic pressure to this point, blood flow and fresh oxygen flow are restored to the injured tissue. Trigger point is one of my specialties as many therapists simply do not offer it, as not all therapists can find the points. I have clients who opt for trigger point therapy instead or or in conjunction with their acupuncture treatments.
ORTHOPEDIC MASSAGE
Along with being a certified massage therapist (CMT), I am also certified to assist in physical therapy treatment (CPTA). This style of massage focuses not on the entire body but on a specific area of the body that has been injured, such as upper back, lower back, knee, ankle, or rotator cuff injuries. The massage goal is to remove fluid and inflammation from the injured area and work to restore proper blood flow and oxgen flow to the area to help speed healing.
MASSAGE FOR SPECIFIC AILMENTS:
SCIATICA MASSAGE
Sciatica pain generally starts in the lower back (lumbar) or hip and courses down the outside of the leg either to the knee or all the way to the ankle. The sciatic nerve can run through the piriformis muscle, so if this muscle becomes contracted, the nerve is constricted within it, and can cause great pain and discomfort. Sciatica massage is an orthopedic massage to relax the piriformis muscle, thus relaxing the constricting of the sciatic nerve running through it. I have successfully performed many massages for sciatic pain, and relieved a lot of suffering even within the initial treatment.
